Me time???

It can't be good, when, after 1 hour at my desk on a Monday morning, I already feel like I've been in the office for a week and need a weekend.

There is just too much to do at work, too many training opportunities, too many social things, and not enough me time. I'd like to learn to say no gracefully. And I'd love to learn to recognise an overwhelming situation BEFORE I'm in the midst of it.

And yes, I realise that in this post I've used an 's' instead of a 'z'... 2 years of spell-checker correcting me has left its mark...

Flabbergastation

hmm... I'm pretty sure that's NOT a real word, but I'll add it to the Katie dictionary.

This flabbergasts me.

And this flabbergasts me.

The first because she's just so painful and if she gets into office I am seriously not returning.

The second because it's on such a ridiculously small scale as to literally blow my mind.

Musings

This morning I got to use a fresh towel. Not in itself a unique experience, but the smell of a towel dried in the sunshine and the stiffness associated with it always takes me back to poolside in Tucson at my grandparents' pool on summer vacation (I almost said holiday! - this aussie english is creeping in I tell you!) When I first moved here and did not have a drier I didn't really like sun-dried towels. Now I do.

Do some people just not see the dirty? Or smell the smell? Not a characteristic I like in a flatmate, as it turns out.

I love that I can see kangaroos in my daily life! Last night I was driving back from a soccer game (where I scored the winning goal in the last 15 seconds, thank you very much!) down in Tuggeranong valley and on the drive home I pass a lot of open fields (the bush is right here in Canberra!) and there were heaps of kangaroos isnce it was dusk. So cool!!!

How many musings does it take to have a quorum of musings? Is there such a thing?

Wally the Wombat video

Long Weekend!

Yesterday was Labour Day (ie, a public holiday!) so, for the long weekend, I went down to Merimbula ("Magical Merimbula, the capital of the Sapphire Coast"), which is about 3 hours away on the south coast. It's such a gorgeous drive from here to the coast. I stayed at a B&B on Merimbula Lake and had no plans. I ate good food and finished season 3 of Spooks on DVD (it was grey - as long weekends on the coast have a tendency to be!) I did do some exploring - went off-road to the southern most tip of NSW to see the Green Cape lighthouse, took a nap on Merimbula Beach, had fish and chips, was pampered with homemade breakfast in the guesthouse each morning, and I finally saw a live wombat. Wally the wombat is a resident at Robyn's Nest (the B&B I was at) and he was so freaking cute. I realize the video is super shaky, but I was pretty excited!!! An example of the country between Canberra and the coast: Disaster Bay: Green Cape lighthouse. In operation from 1883 to 1996. A little lizard! Merimbula Beach The guesthouse at Robyn's Nest

The act of crying has been defined as "a complex secretomotor phenomenon characterized by the shedding of tears from the lacrimal apparatus, without any irritation of the ocular structures"

There's nothing like the sleep you have after performing this complex secretomotor phenomenon.
